I was born in Monterrey Mexico. Even though the artistic inclination was always around, my first step as a young artist was to follow the advise of my parents and "get a business degree". In 1973 I moved to Austin TX to work towards a degree in Economics at The University of Texas and in order to cover some of his expenses as a student, I worked as a dishwasher, busboy, bartender assistant, bartender extraordinaire in Austin's famous 6th street, sold newspaper ads at The Austin American Statesman and very short careers selling used cars and also vacuum cleaners door to door. After finishing my Bachelor of Arts in Economics and eventually a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the University of Texas at Austin, I moved to Los Angeles to attend Cal-State Fullerton as an MA candidate in Fine Arts, that same year I was accepted to the MFA program at Cornell University and graduated in 1997. After my graduation, moved to New York City, set-up my art studio in the Dumbo-Navy Yards area of Brooklyn and then in Red Hook, Brooklyn. During this time, my interest in the creative, perceptive and unconscious mental processes, led me to work towards a Masters in Psychology and a Masters in Art Therapy at New York University, obtained a fellowship at the Metropolitan Center for Urban Education (NYU) and worked as a Tutor at several NYC public schools, as well as being a research intern for Dr. Dennis Pelli (NYU) and a year's intern for the Art Therapy program an NYU, graduated in 2002 with a 60 graduate credit hours and a combination masters in Psychology and Art Therapy.
Since 2002, Guillermo has been working continually in his art studio now in Houston TX as well as an adjunct professor in the Fine arts and in Psychology academic areas, and has taught at Universidad de Monterrey, Monterrey MX, Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon, Monterrey MX, University of Texas at San Antonio, San Antonio TX, St. Edwards University in Austin TX, Houston Community College, and Lone Star College, in Houston TX.
I now work at my studio in Houston, TX
My paintings and digital work are in numerous corporate and private collections in the U.S.A. and Mexico (Texas, Mississippi, Louisiana, New York, Monterrey, MX, Mexico City, and Guadalajara MX).
